The 2015 Mazda CX-5 is available now

Mazda’s compact SUV is a real temptation for many buyers. Especially when considering the vehicle’s recent redesign, and fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technology. Spacious, comfortable, and pleasing to drive, the Mazda CX-5 continues to provide consumers with an appealing choice for a 5-passenger SUV.

Carrying over the changes received in 2014, buyers of the new 2015 Mazda CX-5 can enjoy sleek styling as a result of the automaker’s KODO: Soul of Motion design language. With a sportier and more aggressive look, the 2015 CX-5 is indeed quite appealing.

The new CX-5 also benefits from Mazda’s fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technology. For example, the base GX model is equipped with a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with direct-injection, generating 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. With the base engine, buyers can enjoy 10-15 percent more low- to mid-range torque, and 15 percent lower fuel consumption compared the previous (pre-2014) 2.0-litre engine.

Fuel economy ratings are 9.0/6.8 liters per 100 kilometers (city/highway) when considering the front-wheel drive version equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. With the optional 6-speed automatic with Sport mode, the ratings become 8.9 and 7.3 L/100km, which is impressive for this type of vehicle. All-wheel drive is optional on the base GX model.

Step up to the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with direct-injection, and power is increased to 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. The 6-speed automatic is standard on these trims, and AWD is optional on the GS and standard on the GT model. Fuel economy ratings for the 2.5-litre are 9.6 and 7.4 L/100km (city/highway respectively) with FWD, and 9.9 and 7.9 L/100km with AWD, which are again noteworthy ratings.

When driving the 2015 Mazda CX-5, you may find the “zoom-zoom” element to be more present when opting for the 2.5-litre engine, which is more in-line with rivals like the Honda CR-V. The brakes, steering and suspension are very capable for this type of vehicle, and handling is also very good with the new CX-5. Overall, owners may feel that the SUV has quite the athletic character.

All models are equipped with dynamic stability and traction control, hill launch assist, and depending on the model, two of Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE (active safety technology) are available as well: the blind spot monitoring system, and smart city brake support.

In terms of interior spaciousness, the 2015 CX-5 will provide room for 5-passengers, with good headroom and legroom for both front and rear seat occupants. With all the seats in place, the cargo area is big enough for the needs of most buyers. Rear seats will also split to provide owners with even more cargo volume.

As for features, the base GX model comes standard with elements like remote keyless entry, push start button, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, among others.

Other features, such as dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation system, rearview camera and a moonroof are available depending on the model, along with driver’s power seat, heated front seats, leather-trimmed upholstery and satellite radio.

The 2015 Mazda CX-5 is an SUV to consider for its impressive fuel economy ratings, attractive design, comfortable and spacious interior, and a pleasing driving experience. SKYACTIV technology and intriguing features are also among its highlights.
