The 2019 Mazda CX-3
April 30 2018,
Mazda was one of the first to jump on the compact crossover bandwagon a few years ago, and when the CX-3 first emerged it took the market by storm and quickly became popular. Well, as Mazda makes its way through their lineup updating here and there, the CX-3 was one of their chosen refreshes.
For 2019, the Mazda CX-3 has seen an exterior and interior update, slight engine tweaks, as well as suspension, powertrain improvements.
So, what’s really changed in the 2019 Mazda CX-3?
While the exterior of the 2019 Mazda CX- doesn’t look glaringly different, it has been updated every so slightly. You’ll immediately recognize the family genes in the front grille, however, Mazda designers updated the inner grille and added some chrome accents here and there. Step around to the rear and that’s where you’ll notice a whole new design with uber modern taillights that mimic the shape and style of the headlights.
Slip inside the 2019 Mazda CX-3 and the changes are subtle, but significant. The cable parking brake has been replaced with an e-brake electronic button; however, the shift lever remains. Details such as faux-suede applique around the dashboard with red accents up front and in the rear seat, along with a new armrest in the rear with cup-holders really elevate the CX-3 to new heights in terms of quality and luxury.
Now, about that engine tweak. You’ll notice that the outgoing 2.0L SKYACTIV-G inline-4 engine remains, however, Mazda worked hard at reducing the internal friction of said engine to increase torque. That 2.0L now produces 148 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque – up 2 horses and lb-ft respectively.
Handling has also been improved in the 2019 Mazda CX-3 with added G-Vector Control programming new 18” wheels, and a retuned suspension and steering.
