2018 MAZDA6: TURBOCHARGED FTW
There’s no denying the Mazda6 was already a stunning feat in engineering from the Japanese automaker, however, somehow for the 2018 model, they’ve managed to kick it up a notch in terms of design, technology and performance.
For starters, the 2018 Mazda6 will now come with a 2.5L turbocharged mill. Yes, you read that correctly: turbo. The same engine already found in the all-new CX-9 crossover will now be in the new Mazda6, which means more power. Lots of power. Opt to put 93-octane gas and you’ll get a fabulous 250 horsepower (227 with 87 octane) and 310 lb-ft of torque, regardless of gas grade chosen. The turbo engine only comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, if it’s the manual you want then you’ll have to settle for the previous generation’s 2.5L naturally aspirated mill.
While the previous generation’s exterior look was far from dated, this latest model has taken it all up a level with subtle tweaks and improvements that have somehow made the Mazda6 even more attractive to look at. Smooth, flowing lines from nose to trunk give the 2018 Mazda6 a fluid look that makes it look like it’s on the move, even when it’s parked.
KODO design is ever present, but the 2018 Mazda6 sports an updated front grille and standard LED headlights. All new 17” and available 19” wheel designs and body-paint colour parts covering the exterior elevate the Mazda6’s status on the road, as well.
Inside, the 2018 Mazda6 is all-new with only the steering wheel carrying over from the previous generation. For the first time, the Mazda6 will offer an available Signature trim level (same as seen on the CX-9). A standard 7.0” screen sits behind the gauge cluster, and the entertainment unit can be upgraded to an available 8.0” touchscreen.
