FIRST DIESEL ENGINE WITH SKYACTIV-D TECHNOLOGY ARRIVES AT MAZDA
For the first time in Canada, Mazda will offer a diesel engine in its lineup. By incorporating SKYACTIV-D technology aboard the new Mazda CX-5 compact sport utility vehicle, Mazda is about to make a lot of consumers very happy.
Combining efficiency with gobs of torque, Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine is certainly very promising, and should provide Mazda CX-5 owners with the driving pleasure they seek from their Mazda vehicle while also proving once again that SKYACTIV is the way to go if you want to lower your vehicle’s fuel consumption.
Weight reduction is the secret behind SKYACTIV-D technology
Thanks to an impressive usage of aluminum in the design of its new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, Mazda has been able to reduce fuel consumption by 20 percent compared to the manufacturer’s older generation of diesel engines.
The pistons were lightened by 25 percent and the total weight of this new SKYACTIV-D engine was reduced by no less than 25 kilos. That’s certainly quite significant.
Always pushing the limits and offering exemplary fuel efficiency, Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D technology uses a compression ratio of 14: 1, the best in the world for a diesel engine.
With a displacement of 2.2 liters, this first diesel engine offered by Mazda in Canada will also be equipped with a turbocharger that will improve performance while reducing fuel consumption.
That said, we must remember that all vehicles built by Mazda are designed with the goal of providing unparalleled driving pleasure on the road. And rest assured, SKYACTIV-D technology will certainly not be an exception to the rule.

Better yet, you will not need to wait very long to see SKYACTIV-D technology available at Atlantic Mazda.
